Patriotic Pretzel Rods

Patriotic Pretzel Rods

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowls (1 for each candy color)
  • A spoon or spatula for stirring
  • A baking sheet lined with parchment or wax paper
  • Tall drinking glasses for dipping, totally optional but super helpful!
  • Zip-top bag for drizzle fun

Ingredients

  • 12 pretzel rods the long ones
  • ½ cup of red candy melts
  • ½ cup of white candy melts
  • ½ cup of blue candy melts
  • 2 tablespoons of patriotic sprinkles red, white, and blue

Instructions

  • Before you start melting chocolate, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set out your sprinkles. You’ll want to move quickly once things are melted!
  • In three separate microwave-safe bowls, melt each color of candy melts one at a time. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Be careful not to overheat or they’ll get clumpy. If that happens, a tiny bit of coconut oil or shortening can help smooth things out.
  • Take one pretzel rod and dip it about halfway into your chosen candy melt color. You can spoon the coating over the pretzel if you’re using a shallow bowl, or use a tall glass for an easier dip. Gently tap off the excess back into the bowl.
  • While the candy is still warm and melty, immediately add the red white and blue sprinkles. You can either roll the dipped pretzel in a shallow dish of sprinkles or just shake them on with a spoon.
Quick tip: If the coating sets before you get the sprinkles on, they won’t stick. So I like to dip 2–3 pretzels at a time, then sprinkle before moving on.
  • Lay your finished pretzel rods on the parchment-lined tray and let them cool completely. You can pop the tray in the fridge for 10 minutes if you’re in a hurry Once they’re firm to the touch, they’re ready to serve.
