Before you start melting chocolate, line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set out your sprinkles. You’ll want to move quickly once things are melted!
In three separate microwave-safe bowls, melt each color of candy melts one at a time. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth. Be careful not to overheat or they’ll get clumpy. If that happens, a tiny bit of coconut oil or shortening can help smooth things out.
Take one pretzel rod and dip it about halfway into your chosen candy melt color. You can spoon the coating over the pretzel if you’re using a shallow bowl, or use a tall glass for an easier dip. Gently tap off the excess back into the bowl.
While the candy is still warm and melty, immediately add the red white and blue sprinkles. You can either roll the dipped pretzel in a shallow dish of sprinkles or just shake them on with a spoon.Quick tip: If the coating sets before you get the sprinkles on, they won’t stick. So I like to dip 2–3 pretzels at a time, then sprinkle before moving on. Lay your finished pretzel rods on the parchment-lined tray and let them cool completely. You can pop the tray in the fridge for 10 minutes if you’re in a hurry Once they’re firm to the touch, they’re ready to serve.
