Preheat the Grill. Heat it up to medium-high (about 375°F to 400°F).
Prep the Hot Dogs. If you’re feeling fancy, make shallow diagonal slits across each dog. This helps them cook evenly and gives them that signature grill look.
Pop those hot dogs on the grill. Turn them every couple minutes so they cook evenly and get some tasty char marks. About 6–8 minutes total should do it.
During the last minute or two, throw your buns on the grill, cut side down. Keep an eye on them so they don’t burn! You’re just looking for a light toast.
Place each grilled hot dog into its bun, then let everyone top their own just the way they like it.
Set out all your toppings buffet-style so guests can go wild. Cheese? Yes please. Gherkins? Fancy! Tomatoes and herbs? Sure, why not!
